Essential Swimming Gear for Beginners to Improve Technique and Speed
You do not need much to start swimming laps, but a few pieces make the early sessions easier.
Goggles and a cap
Goggles should seal around your eyes without a tight strap; press them on without the strap first, and they should hold for a second. A silicone cap keeps hair out of the way and lasts longer than latex.
Training aids
A kickboard lets you work on your legs alone, and a pull buoy does the same for your arms. Use them for part of a session, not all of it.
Build slowly
Short, regular sessions improve technique faster than occasional long ones. If you can, ask a coach to watch your stroke once or twice.
